Waste not, want not?

Park High: Waste not, want not?

Many children in high schools have had a bad attitude towards school lunches, but the real question is ’Why’?

In Park High School a new canteen has just been installed but are the lunches up to scratch? All children like their hot and cold meals but, there will always be some who dislike the food.

Park High students:

Riya: (YR9) SOMETIMES

Nisha: (YR9) SOMETIMES

Areej: (YR9) YES

Chandan: (YR8) SOMETIMES

Rahul: (YR8)  SOMETIMES

UP TO SCRATCH OR NOT?

The table clearly shows that sometimes Park High School’s meals are up to scratch, but what about the dinner ladies who work hard to prepare food that students sometimes like? Don’t they get any credit?

What dinner ladies struggle to cope with is making sure the food is cooked through and perfect for the students. There could be chances of food poisoning especially when cooking meat and there could be chances of illness when eating the food.

IS BEING A DINNER LADY HARD?

You may think that being a dinner lady is an easy joy but, there are a lot of elements that goes with this job many students say.

Other students say that being a dinner lady is easy because all you have to do is serve average food and make sure it is cooked. Hopefully many people can remember this issue and think to themselves that park high’s chefs are up to scratch according to the students.

HOT OR COLD AND WASTE:

Many people in PHS want to know which one sells fastest and which one is left to be chucked in the bin. A lot of school food is wasted which can cost millions of pounds. How do PHS’s chefs know how much to cook when it is measured by guessing?

The head chef said, “We rarely have any waste because we have been in this job for years and we know how many people are in the school but, cold food sells the fastest”.
