Park High School

Sixth Form

We are proud members of the Harrow Collegiate - an innovative solution to the provision of sixth forms in schools where previously there was none - and, having opened to our first students in September 2007, we have gone from strength to strength. All of the schools in the Harrow Collegiate have their Sixth Form Open Evenings on this same evening.

Our Sixth Form is highly effective, recognised as such by Ofsted 2013 because of the exceptional progress made by students. Indeed, in the 2013 DfE Value Added tables, Park High School was comfortably within the top 1% of all schools and colleges in England.

All of our recent Year 13 leavers have gone on to study at university, or have taken gap years prior to doing so, or have taken up apprenticeships in the City.

Each year we have seen our students go on to a wide range of courses at prestigious universities:

In 2010, our Head Boy, Zain Syed, achieved 4 A*s and left us for Christ Church College, University of Oxford, to read Medicine. He placed second in the entire university for his end of first year examination results and, as a consequence, became a Prizewinner and scholar of Christ Church. Zain has now graduated, his BA placing third in the entire university and he took a two year break to study in a seminary overseas before returning to complete his clinical studies.

In 2012, Priti Mohandas (A*AA) and Ian Thorp (6 A*s) began their courses at King's College, Cambridge and Trinity College, Cambridge, in Architecture and Mathematics respectively.

In 2013 Samah Khan (AAA), our Head Girl, began her first year at Bristol University studying dentistry and last year Shahid Wahab (A*A*A*A) began his degree in Spanish and German at Trinity College Cambridge, while his classmate and twin brother, Nadir (AAB) went to read Ship Science at Southampton University.

This year, Antonia Munteanu (A*A*A*) won a place at King's College Cambridge to read Architecture, and Dilini Kothalawala (A*AAB) is now beginning her studies at University College London in Applied Medical Science.

These are just some of the many, many students whom we might have singled out to demonstrate the academic rigour and success that awaits Park High students who commit themselves to their studies here in our Sixth Form. Staff, as well as students, are wholly committed to the wellbeing and to the success of all who learn here.

We are very clear about the purposes of our Sixth Form. Naturally we want to support our students to achieve the highest possible grades in their AS and A2 studies. We want to make sure that the process of applying to university is as smooth and successful as possible. We also know that this is a very important time in the life of a young person, a time when they find out more about themselves, their hopes and aspirations. We see it as our role to support our young adults through the next two years to make the right decisions in so many areas, and to be optimistic and ambitious about their future.

The emphasis in our Sixth Form is on high quality from the very beginning: high quality in teaching; high quality in learning; and high quality in tutoring and pastoral support and breadth of extra-curricular opportunity. Clearly our first seven cohorts of Sixth Formers have responded very positively to our ethos and are benefitting from our lovely Sixth Form Centre, the Tony Barnes Building.

As I have stated above, Park High's Sixth Form is a member of the Harrow Collegiate, which includes all the schools and colleges in Harrow. You will receive a separate prospectus for the Collegiate which includes details of A level courses available beyond Park High, that can be studied by students who enrol here. The Collegiate prospectus also includes details of the wide range of courses, both vocational and academic, that are offered across the Collegiate.

Please contact Shaun Barrett, our Head of Sixth Form, or me, if you have any questions and we will be delighted to discuss any aspect of our Sixth Form provision with you.

With best wishes.

Yours sincerely

Mr Emlyn Lumley
