Sixth Form Parents' Evening Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Sixth Form Parents’ Evening

Now that we have covered the learning and teaching of the first half of the autumn term your son or daughter’s teachers have had the opportunity to make informed assessments on their progress and likely achievements. I am writing to invite you to come and meet with the teachers to discuss all of this.

Our Parents’ Evening will take place on Wednesday 11th November. It will follow the same format as with previous year group Parents’ Evenings; appointments will be available from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. However in a departure from previous practice, all teaching staff will be meeting with you in the new sixth form centre, the Tony Barnes Building. Mr. Lumley and I will also be available, although as I teach two AS level classes, you may prefer to make an appointment to see me at some other specified time. The vast majority of students are taught one of their subjects by their Tutor but where they are not I would advise you to make an appointment to meet with the Tutor on the evening. The relationship that your son or daughter has forged with their Tutor is paramount to their achievement and it is vital that you should lend your support to it. Where your son or daughter is underachieving please ask to be informed of planned intervention strategies to enable them to make necessary progress. In this way you can monitor progress and provide appropriate support.

Looking ahead, I would like to notify you of our planned UCAS meeting for students, parents and carers on the evening of Wednesday 24th March. The meeting will provide information, advice and guidance on opportunity and the processes which will enable your son or daughter to access higher education.

Looking further ahead I would like to notify you that following the end of AS exams, teaching for A2 will commence straight away. There are a number of advantages for doing this which we intend to exploit. Final decisions on which subject to leave at AS level will not be made until results are available in mid August and completing aspects of the first A2 module ahead of these will place students in a stronger position to make the right choices. Permission for students to leave school ahead of the end of the sixth form summer term will not be granted under any circumstances.

Please use the slip attached below to notify your son or daughter’s tutor who will be attending Parents’ Evening next week.

With best wishes
