What is the Jack Petchey Award?

The Jack Petchey Award Scheme gives the school an opportunity to recognise those students who do something special – who go the extra mile. Whether this is for outstanding effort, service or achievement, the award is a measure of doing your best, not necessarily being the best. In this way, it opens up a channel for noticing those individuals who may otherwise have gone unnoticed. But more importantly, it is an award that is chosen by students for students, which adds to the sense of achievement for the award winners.

The winners receive a framed certificate, a Jack Petchey Young Achiever pin badge, £200 which is spent on a school and community project, and finally they attend an annual Borough Celebration evening, where they receive a Jack Petchey medallion.

How does it work?

Every term, the whole school, including teachers, are asked to vote for those students who they think deserve to be recognised for something special they’ve done or achieved. Of course, this could be for activities or achievements either in or outside of school. The nominations are then reviewed by the Jack Petchey coordinators and leadership team. The three most outstanding nominations will then receive the award. Nominees can also be parents and governors.

What is the Leadership Award?

The Jack Petchey Leader Award enables the school to publicly honour the dedication and commitment of staff or volunteers – particularly recognising those ‘who go the extra mile’ to support young people. Awards are given to adults who have demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to encourage and motivate young people aged 11-25
