Visit to the Supreme Court

A group of Year 10 and 11 students visited the Supreme Court to participate in a debate day to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.  After a tour of the Supreme Court, students were required to formulate arguments whilst referring to ideas and principles raised in the Magna Carta clauses as to whether in times of crisis, should principles 39 and 40 be suspended in order to protect the state. Three external lawyers provided their expertise before the debate took place. All students had the opportunity to give their arguments and it was a highly beneficial opportunity to develop their confidence, communication and public speaking skills.
