Spring Sporting Success

Our sports programme continues to thrive at Park High School with many students getting involved. There has been plenty to celebrate of late and we are confident there will more to come before this season is over. Here is the latest news.

Girls Football

The girls had one borough trophy under their belts already this season from the first term, when the U16s won their tournament. The U14s, made up of players from Year 7, 8 and 9 emulated that success earlier this term to make it two borough wins out of two in girls football tournaments. The U13 league campaign kicked-off with our team (students from Year 7 and Year 8) beating John Lyon 6-1. They remain unbeaten having defeated Avanti in their second game. Next up for that team is Whitefriars, then Bentley Wood. Meanwhile, the U16 team, which is made up students from Years 7-11, have a final on the horizon – playing against Pinner High at Bannisters on Monday 27 March.

Boys Football

All of our boys teams made the quarter finals in their respective age groups (U13, U14, U15 and U16). Our B Teams took part in the ‘plate’ competition, against other first teams who did not reach the quarter final stage, with the U14 B Team reaching the final against Avanti. That final is being played on Thursday 23 March. Our U14s sailed through to the borough final, for the second consecutive year, beating Whitmore 7-1 in the semis and Salvatorian 6-1 in the quarters. Our U13 team, made up of players from Year 7 and Year 8, face Whitmore in their semi-final and that game takes place on Tuesday 28 March. U15s and U16s have not made the final this year, with the U15s being extremely unlucky to be knocked out on penalties having dominated the game without converting their chances.

Netball

Our U15 Netball team put in a flawless performance in their semi-final, beating Rooks Heath 19-0. They have been training hard ahead of the final which takes place on Wednesday 29 March. It seems as though the teams in the younger years have been inspired and they are looking strong as their group stages come to a close. The U13 team has a won one, drawn one and lost one record, the Year 7 team won three games comfortably and came up just short in one of their fixtures, meaning they have qualified for the semi-finals. While our U14 team are unbeaten, having won against Bentley Wood, Sacred Heart and Avanti. They to go through to the semi-finals.

Volleyball

As the popularity of Volleyball increases across the borough we are able to offer more friendly opportunities and this has really helped the students prepare for their borough tournaments. They train relentlessly and we saw that hard work pay off as we won the U16 borough competition, with students from Year 10 and 11 making up our team. We went one game down in the final but took the second game to tie the match against Harrow High at 1-1. The deciding set was a tense affair but we came out on top, winning 25-23, to claim the trophy. Our U14 team play their final after the Easter break.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis never seems to stop at Park High. The students play every single day, before school, at break, at lunch and after school. All age groups comfortably beat John Lyon in friendly fixtures to prepare for the borough finals. Our Year 7 team then won the borough finals, coming out on top against Avanti in the final. Our U16s came close in their final, with students from Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 involved, but unfortunately the last doubles game ended up being the decider and we were not quite good enough on the night. Our U14s are in the borough final on Thursday 30 March.

Basketball

As soon as the Basketball season was over, training began for next year. The students are desperate to replicate the success of 2021-22, which sadly evaded them this year. Our Year 7 team made the borough final, but came up against a Rooks Heath side who were just too strong. Our U14 and U16 teams both went out Nower Hill in games that were neck and neck up to final seconds. Nower Hill hit a three-pointer with 2 seconds on the clock against our U16s to take the game into overtime and edged past us in the end.

Badminton

Both squads, the U14s and the U16s, qualified for the borough finals again this year. We were desperately unlucky that our top seed was ill on the day of the U14 finals as we were confident we had enough to win the competition. We ended up in third place in both competitions, with students from Year 7, 8 and 9 representing us in the U14s and Year 10 and 11 in the U16s. The students continue to train every week before school and we will go in search of a trophy again next season.

Cross-Country

The borough cross-country took place in January at Harrow Schools. Anay in Year 7, Jasmin and Sofia in Year 9 were all placed in the top ten in their age groups and went on to represent Harrow at the Middlesex event.
