GCSE Music students perform Steve Reich’s Clapping Music on the South Bank

“GCSE Music students perform Steve Reich’s Clapping Music on the South Bank”

GCSE MUSIC STUDENTS HEAR FROM STEVE REICH AT ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL

On Tuesday 5th March a group of Year 10 & 11 music students (and Rebecca Nelson) went to the Royal Festival Hall to see a performance of works by the Minimalist composer Steve Reich, as part of his ‘Radio Rewrite’ tour. Steve Reich has been described as “the most influential composer of the Twentieth Century”, and the concert was a celebration of his ground-breaking music, including one of the GCSE set works – ‘Electric Counterpoint’ – performed by 9 pre-recorded guitars and one live performer. The pieces were amazing and great to hear live. Towards the end of the concert Steve Reich came on stage and talked about how he became a composer.  He advised us all that there’s no point pursuing anything in life unless you truly want to do it.

It was a fantastic experience, enjoyed by all.
