Dear Parents and Carers
Traffic Chaos in Burnell Gardens this morning (Thursday 23 January 2014)
This morning in Burnell Gardens between 8.15 and 8.45 the shocking and wholly unacceptable selfishness of some of our parents and carers led to gridlock in one of the two roads leading towards the school.
For the last four years I have made constant polite requests that parents and carers should allow their children simply to walk from home to school (particularly since over 90% live within one mile). If driving is absolutely necessary then students should be deposited safely on a pavement several hundred yards from the school and certainly not in Burnell Gardens, Thistlecroft Gardens or Lamorna Grove. We set a very poor example indeed when we exercise such selfish behaviour, particularly when it is accompanied by rudeness and in some cases foul language directed towards neighbours who have a legitimate right to leave their own driveways.
I am heartily fed up of receiving justifiable complaints from those people who live closest to the school, none of whom should have to tolerate conditions such as this. This behaviour is also dangerous to our students who are trying to enter the school where cars are trying to turn in a confined space. Please stop. High resolution copies of the photographs we have taken and received from neighbours, several of which show numberplates, have been passed to the police and to Harrow Council’s Traffic Enforcement Team. Please help us to help your children by being better yourselves.
