Ignite competition

Ignite is a public speaking competition and day of celebration which we run annually in years 7 and 8. The aim is to improve students oracy and confidence with public speaking.

"Oracy is the ability to articulate ideas, develop understanding and engage with others through spoken language.  In school, oracy is a powerful tool for learning; by teaching students to become more effective speakers and listeners we empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them." - Voice21

Year 7 were challenged to speak publicly about a subject they feel passionate about - with no notes! After carefully crafting their speeches with their English teachers, and learning about tone and body language with their tutors, Year 7 were on the cusp of their first Ignite Day when we went into lockdown.

However, we did not let this stop us. Year 7 filmed their speeches from home with some fantastic results. We are incredibly proud of what our Year 7s have produced and hope you will enjoy this wonderful video montage of the finalists speeches. In particular well done to our winners Amber, Sahil and Shreya!
