Why did the government change eating fruit and vegetables from 5-a-day to 7-a-day?

The government has changed 5-a-day into 7-a-day. The main reason is to stop cancer and heart disease, only 50% of people who get cancer survive. Eating 7-a-day stops heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity. A science test indicated that 65,226 men and women that the more fruit and vegetables strongest protective effect followed by salad then fruit.

Fruit juice confers no benefit while canned fruit appeared to increase the risk of death. Scientists, have discovered that canned fruit is stored in sugary syrups which results to diabetes and stroke. The higher a person’s intake of fruit and vegetables they eat a day the greater the protective effect seemed to be. The average person in the UK eats less than 3 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, instead of the recommended 7- a -day. The recommended amount of calories for an average female is 2,000 calories however for male is 2,500 calories a day.

An interview with our P.E teacher Miss Perren:

“I eat more than 7 fruit and vegetables a day, I also have fruit at breakfast, for lunch, I have salad and fruit and for dinner some protein with vegetables. I go to the gym at least 4 times a week. To keep myself fit I use stairs instead of lifts and escalators. As I’m a P.E teachers I walk everyday, if I need to go to the super-market I always walk.”

An interview with a student, Vishali:

“ I eat at least 5 fruit and vegetables a day. For breakfast I have a nice porridge with a mug of milk, for lunch I have a sandwich with vegetables and for dinner rice and for dessert a fruit yogurt.”
