Experience Engineering - 15th - 17th April

Experience Engineering is a residential course at University of Southampton for Year 12 students interested in studying engineering at university. The residential will introduce students to the areas of Ship Science, Mechanical Engineering and Acoustical Engineering.

Over three days, students will design, build and test a Green power car and a fast craft for water. Students will also capture, explore and synthesize acoustic environments as part of a team. These projects allow the participants a chance to undertake research whilst developing essential key skills. Staff and students from the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences will provide talks, workshops and seminars within their subject areas.

Sessions will provide insight into the wealth of careers and opportunities that an engineering degree can provide. This will include an alumni session to learn and network with those already in exciting and specialised fields.

Participants live in university halls of residence for the duration of the course, and are mentored by current undergraduate and postgraduate students, giving a unique opportunity to find out what life is like at university. Students will also have the opportunity to socialise with other Year 12 students and current university students. Social opportunities will include a series of evening activities and meals.

The course is a great opportunity to get a taste for engineering ahead of university applications.

For more information please visit: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/

Deadline is Monday 24th February 2020. If you have a applied or are interested in applying for this course please contact Mrs Foster, Mr Samuels and/or Ms Barker.

Work Experience - Week of 15th June

Work Experience is a valuable part of the curriculum and here at Park High we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to have one week set aside for us in the yearly calendar.

In order for our students to stand out, we need to make them ‘work ready’ and ‘employable’ – equipped with the skills (not just academic) that an employer is looking for.

Skills such as:

  • Problem solving

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Time management)

  • Professionalism

  • Working maturity

  • Willingness to learn and be guided by others

  • Enthusiasm for the tasks provided

Mrs Patel will work with the help from parents and carers to actively support their children in securing a placement.
