The Science and engineering week in park high was an exciting week where students could freely express their creativity in two forms put together as one. Students from across the school took part in many activities like the egg transport challenge where they had to create a carrier for the egg to travel in air, water and land.
They also had a career talk from an engineer who works for BAM, students also had a rocket car challenge and finally there was a showcase for the students to present their work.
On Monday 17th of March the year 10 students had a career talk from an engineer who works for a company called BAM. BAM is a construction service which designs and creates buildings such as office buildings, schools, council buildings, museums and health clinics. The engineer talked about how much money the earned. He also talked about different careers in construction such as designers, surveyors and project/site management.
Army helicopter engineer talk
On Wednesday 19th March an army helicopter engineer on leave came in to talk to students about his job in the army. He talked about what age he was when he joined the army and the sort of things that he had to do in his first few weeks of training. He also talked about the different types of helicopters and their jobs. The students were very engaged and interested in the talk.
Rocket car challenge
On the same day of the army engineer talk there were students who had built rocket cars out of wood and plastic who then took these cars up to the playground to see if the t worked and they did, they went across the playground so fast that it left a mark on the ground.
Egg transport challenge
The egg transport challenge was on Thursday 20th march, students had to create a carrier to survive through water, land and height. The students had a short supply of materials to create their carriers and they enjoyed creating the carriers, most of the students said they would want to do the egg transport challenge next science and engineering week.
On Friday 21st march all the science and engineering students came together to present all their work they have done throughout the week. It was an illuminating showcase of students presenting their findings through their exploration of the modern world.
