The district final of the Rotary Young Chef Competition took place here at Park High School on Monday 15th January. The Rotary Young Chef Competition it is a four-stage national competition to support and encourage development of cookery skills. At all stages of the competition competitors will receive a certificate of participation.
The District Final included 13 students from 7 local schools, Park High had to 2 students competeting in the competition Zahir (Year 9) and Shaima (Year 10, who was also runner up in last years competition).
The task was to prepare a healthy two course meal comprising of a main course and dessert for two people in an hour and a half costing less than £10. The Judging panel included 2 professional chefs, they allocated marks for Costing, Planning, Healthy choice of dishes, Meal served at correct temperature, Neatness of working area, hygiene, Range of skills used, Taste, Judges also deducted marks for courses presented outside the allotted time. The Judges all agreed that standards of food the students produced was exceptional.
We are incredibly proud of our two contestants, Zahir and Shaima, who created main courses and desserts that were technically demanding, bursting with flavour and beautifully presented.
We are absolutely delighted to announce that the overall winner was Shaima! The judges were particularly impressed by Shaima's beetroot and chocolate hot lava cake, and so were some of the lucky staff who go to taste it afterwards, yum!
The Mayor of Barnet presented Shaima with her certificate and prize, she will go through to the Regional Final which will be held between mid-February and March. The winner of each regional final is entered into the national final.
