Park High School

School Diversity week

On Thursday 5th July, as part of School Diversity week we had a PRIDE non-uniform day. This was a week where we celebrate our school’s commitment to equality for all! The 2010 Equality Act, OFSTED, Human rights and our school policies all make it clear that diversity is something we celebrate such as our genders or age.

It is not acceptable to be hateful or to discriminate against someone because of who they are. That includes all those of a minority group – whether that be race, religion or disability. We focused specifically on LGBT+ rights because statistics show that it still remains incredibly tough for LGBT+ young people at school.

Events included students being able to buy rainbow badges and rainbow laces. We also had a  ‘Come out walking’ event at lunchtime where we did a lap of the field in solidarity with the LGBT+ community and to show Park High’s commitment to equality.

Money raised from the day was split between three charities which look to support LGBT+ young people at secondary schools. Thank you to Ms Barker and the Pride youth network for organising the day and all that took part.
