BBC Bitesize helps students explore future career paths

On Friday 2nd October, students in Years 7-10 took part in a special BBC Bitesize careers event, where they heard from professional working in a range of industries.

The event featured three guest speakers: a town planner, a Digital Marketing Office and a Post Production Technician at the BBC, as well as the BBC presenter who hosted the panel.

Through an engaging and interactive panel discussion, students discovered more about the speakers’ career journeys, the challenges they faced and their ambitions for the future. They also had the opportunity to ask questions about everything from job satisfaction to salaries. In each session, a student got to go up on stage and take an online test to explore how their interests and personal strengths could connect to unexpected career options.

One Year 10 student said they were surprised by “how many different jobs you can do with technology,” while others found it reassuring to learn that “it’s normal not to know what you want to do at this stage.”

The event highlighted an important message: there is no single route to a successful career. The skills you develop at school, such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving, are all useful in a much wider range of jobs than you might expect!
