Remembrance Day Commemoration

On Tuesday, 11th November 2025, our school came together to mark Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day that commemorates the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

At 11:00 am, the entire school gathered on the playground to observe a two-minute silence to honour those who lost their lives in wars and conflicts around the world, particularly during the First and Second World Wars. We also paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, past and present.

The silence was followed by a moving rendition of “The Last Post”, performed by one of our talented Year 12 students. This traditional bugle call, often sounded at funerals and commemorative events, symbolises the soldier’s final rest and provided a moment of deep reflection for all.

Afterwards, a special commemoration ceremony took place. Head Students and Prefects carried the school wreath and remembrance crosses to the grassy knoll, where 58 crosses were laid in memory of soldiers from Stanmore who tragically did not return from the Great War. Readings included the poignant words of “Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep” and “The Ode of Remembrance.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all students and staff who supported and participated in this moving service, and a special thank you to Ms Cramp for her thoughtful planning and dedication in organising the event.

This annual tradition remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom and the importance of reflection and remembrance.

Lest we forget.
