2018 Examination Outcomes

Examination Outcomes 2018

Yet again, this year, we are delighted to report the wonderful successes of our young people in public examinations at Key Stage 4 (GCSEs and BTECs).

The school’s headline figures remain very strong, as they have been for several years, and reflect the students’ and teachers’ hard work. Over 26% of all grades awarded were grades 7, 8 or 9 – the old A*/A equivalents and almost 80% of our pupils achieved 5 or more grades 4 - 9 (the equivalent of A*-C).

Almost all of the examined subjects have now moved over to the “reformed” GCSE and BTEC specifications, joining English and mathematics (both of which changed in 2017) in meeting the increased level of challenge in the syllabus and preparing students for linear examinations with numerical grades, rather than the old-style A* - G to which we have become accustomed. We are delighted that over 130 students who had applied to the sixth form achieved or exceeded the grades they needed to progress to their chosen Level 3 courses.

Performance at the top end continued to be very strong.  Our 50 top performing students all achieved 5 or more grades 7 – 9 (old A*/A equivalent); 37 students, equating to 15% of the cohort, attaining seven or more 7-9/ A*-A grades; and five students, Preena, Vesa, Siddhant, Gauri  and Shreya, each attained 11 grades 7-9.

Preena achieved an amazing 10 grades 9, making her own, personal Attainment 8 score of 90, the joint highest in the entire country. This is an outstanding achievement given the reduced number of students nationally being awarded the grade 9 compared with the old A*.

We are delighted that all of our young people have achieved the successes their efforts deserved and that everyone has a pathway for the next phase of their learning, whether it is here, in our sixth form, in another school or college, an apprenticeship or in employment with training.  Our best wishes go to all of them.
