To end our fantastic Book Week celebrations, author and performance poet Steve Tasane worked with our Year 7 and 8 students on Friday 15th June.
The day began with a big assembly in the main hall where Steve enthralled both year groups with his dynamic and upbeat poetry performances. He performed an alphabet rap at breathtaking speed and delivered other raps entitled 'Greedy Guts', 'Marshal Law' and 'Sis.'
During the workshops, students also participated in a number of literary games before writing their own acrostic poems based on anagrams from their names.
Year 7 student, Ryan Thiel described the workshops as an 'exhilarating experience' and Thilakshan Sivanathan, said he ‘thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic day.’
Steve's latest novel 'Child I' was also a huge hit with our students. This is a compelling story told from the perspective of a child refugee. Mr Tasane said he wanted to give those children ‘a voice and ensure it wasn’t bogged down with political argument. I wanted their voices to be simple and straightforward.’
