Park High School

On Thursday 7th March, staff and students came together to celebrate World Book Day

The day began with a big assembly in the Main Hall where author and performance poet Steve Tasane enthralled year 7 and 8 students with his dynamic and upbeat poetry performances. He performed an alphabet rap at breathtaking speed and delivered other raps entitled 'Greedy Guts', 'Marshal Law' and 'Sis.'

Throughout the day, all year 7 students experienced a workshop with Steve. There was high energy all round as students participated in a number of literary games and had the opportunity to ask Steve questions about his life as an author.

Steve's latest novel 'Child I' was also a huge hit with our students as it is a compelling story told from the perspective of a child refugee. Mr Tasane said he wanted to give those children "a voice and ensure it was not bogged down with political argument. I wanted their voices to be simple and straightforward."

A huge thank you to Steve Tasane for his creative energy and we look forward to welcoming him back to Park High School.

Well done to all students who made a superb effort with their fabulous book costumes and to the Science department who embraced a Mr Men theme for the day!
