Top of the Bench Chemistry Competition 2019

On Tuesday 12th November four of our Park High GCSE students entered the Regional heats for the Top of the Bench Chemistry Competition. The Top of the Bench competition has been running for more than 20 years.

Our Park High team was made up of Mondir Year 11, Azhar Year 10, Aditi and Maria both in Year 9. The students were chosen to enter the competition based on their attainment, they were the best performing Chemistry students for each of their Year groups .

The Park High team traveled to Ealing to St. Benedict`s School where this round of the competition was taking place. During the competition there were 10 rounds of chemistry based questions, linked to the periodic table, chemistry in the world, chemistry calculations, literacy and chemistry, they competed with 22 other schools.

Unfortunately the students didn't get through to the next round and lost out to Harrow School and Queen Elizabeth Boys school. The students however were fantastic, they worked excellently as a team, gave up their evening to compete and came middle of the leader board. Our students should be proud of how well they did and how they represented our school. Thanks to Mr Pich and Ms Selvarajah for organising.

The regional winners will compete against each other in the UK final in spring. To find out more about the competition click here.

We hope that making Chemistry fun and exciting will encourage them to consider further education and careers with chemistry to help secure the next generation of talented chemical scientists.
