Park High School

Year 10 Mock Interview Event

On Thursday 21st November Park High School were delighted to welcome 30 representatives from employment, further and higher education to assist with our Year 10 mock interview event. Prior to the event during PSHCEe students were provided with an informative booklet covering the following topics:

  • Structure of a Curriculum Vitae and examples.
  • Skills for work, how confident are you?
  • Interviews and interview questions.
  • Applications –organising and presenting yourself.

Students were supported in PSHCEe, tutor time and during lunchtimes with drafting their Curriculum Vitae.

Each student received a 20-minute interview from one of our esteemed visitors, followed by constructive feedback on their interview technique, CV, body language and appearance.

Here is a selection of comments from the representatives about our students:

‘Well rounded, polite, enthusiastic, determined and driven’.

‘Really stood out for passion about the environment. Gave perfect and detailed answers’.

‘Excellent! Great, professional C.V., very articulate and engaging.  Will definitely succeed in life.  Be bolder – don’t sell yourself short’.

‘Another outstanding interview, I want to hire her’.

The value of employer engagement with our students cannot be underestimated. We are so proud of the large number of employers who worked with our students to prepare them for the world of work and invaluable experiences.

This is our students feedback about their interviews:

‘Representatives gave good advice on how to handle situations’.

‘Having the experience of an interview was very helpful, thank you very much.  I now know what to do’.

‘Good understanding of how I can improve’.

‘The feedback received from the employer was really helpful and will help with future interviews’.

‘He was an amazing interviewer and made me feel comfortable’.

This event contributes to the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance. Our students really valued the opportunity of experiencing a ‘real life’ interview and took the day extremely seriously, even though several students said how nervous they were when they entered the hall and saw all the representatives sitting at their tables.

It is important that all students are fully supported and guided through the process of planning their futures. Park High has a structured careers programme  which was  recognised nationally in 2018 when we were awarded The Quality in Careers Standard through Investors in Careers.

Feedback about the event

‘Really well organised, brilliant questions provided and students were polite throughout’.

‘Very helpful guidance booklet provided prior to the day’.

‘Really great initiative, invaluable experience for teenagers.  I wish I had this at school’.

‘Your students are a pleasure to work with’.

The day was a roaring success. A huge thank you to all the companies and institutions that assisted with this event and to Mrs Foster our full time Careers & Employability Coordinator who organised the event. Check out the photo album for this event here.
