HARROW FIRST/SCHOOL DIRECT (salaried route)

Harrow First is a School Direct salaried route offered in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire.

Participants in the programme will be prepared by undergoing a rigorous programme of training in the summer months, either directly from their previous career or after their degree for new graduates. The Summer School this year will start at the start of July 2019 and will include school experience in home school, taught sessions at Canons delivered by Canons Park TSA SLEs, and a teaching week during which you will be coached every day for 5 days delivering a sequence of 5 lessons. In September, trainees will then be deployed in one of the schools with a timetable of up to 10 hours initially increasing to 16 hours by the summer term. They will be supported in lessons, and with planning and resourcing, by a Higher Level Teaching Assistant with knowledge of the individual school.  As the trainees develop, as assessed by schools and evaluated by the alliance and the university, the HLTA support will be gradually withdrawn in the last term of the year.  Trainees will also undertake a programme of study with the University of Hertfordshire and attend university every Thursday. They will follow a complementary programme of mentoring and professional learning delivered by the CPTSA.
